- ➤ Gainesville’s Newtown Florist Club celebrates 75 years of civil rights and community leadership—founded in 1950 by Willie Faye Bush and Ruby Wilkins, it grew from a social club into a force for social and environmental justice by addressing issues like housing discrimination, police violence, and poor air quality. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Hall County school board introduced a preliminary policy on Monday banning cell phones for students in kindergarten to eighth grade and limiting their use in high schools in accordance with a new state law — the changes are expected to be implemented soon. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ The Hall County School District board plans to ban cellphones and other electronic devices for all students and will review the proposal for a month before a final vote. The ban will start at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year — it includes smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, e-readers, and earbuds. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ The Melvin Douglas and Victoria Kay Ivester Foundation donated $1M to the Hall County School District to expand the Howard E. Ivester Early College program—funding science and certified nurse aide labs along with classroom and facility renovations at the North campus. 97.5 Glory
