Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 17th of November.
Good morning, Gainesville.
🏘️ Community
The Lyman Hall Inclusive Playground is finished and built for every child to enjoy.
Hope for Hall will host a grand opening celebration Sunday, Nov 30 (2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
📰 Economy
AAA said Hall County gas prices stayed at $2.74 a gallon while the state average went up to $2.81 and the national average reached $3.07—refinery maintenance in California is partly causing these price bumps.
Prices stayed lower than last year and are expected to remain quiet as Thanksgiving nears.
🎓 Education
The Hall County School District’s Agribusiness Center (TheFarm) was awarded the Fall Garden of the Season distinction by the Georgia Department of Education’s School Nutrition Division (GDOE) for its excellence in farm-to-school initiatives.
Located on Cleveland Highway, the center provided hands-on learning to about 5,000 students and 900 community members while promoting local food sourcing.
NGTC Alumni Association announced the 2025 Alumni Award winners—Sharon Landrum, who earned the Alumni Hall of Fame Award; Brenton 'Chase' Meeler, who earned the Young Alumni Award; Tim Bennett, who earned the Bridge Builder Award; and Ronnie Ayers, who earned the Career Achievement Award—at its annual homecoming. The event united alumni—past and recent—and honored their contributions to the college and community.
