COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gainesville’s Historic Christmas on Green Street will return on Dec. 7 with food trucks at 1 p.m., a parade at 4 p.m. and Rotary Tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. Street closures run from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. with an expected turnout of about 10,000 people—local parking is available at City Park, Glenwood Drive NE, 100 Brenau Ave NE, 225 Green Street SE and 301 Main Street SW.  AccessWDUN

CRIME NEWS

  • Gainesville native Charles Hosch went missing on Nov. 11 after leaving for a hike at the Byron Herbert Reece Trail (Union County) and his family launched a website to share search updates as volunteer teams plan to resume expanded efforts today.  AccessWDUN
  • The family of 67-year-old attorney Charles Hosch said a new nonprofit search team will join the effort today near Blood Mountain—Hosch was last seen on November 11 when he was hiking down the trail. Previous Union County searches using K-9 units, drones and ground teams have not yet found any clues.  FOX 5 Atlanta

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Gainesville is down eight cents to $2.82 today compared to last week—while the national average has risen to $3.10 and low seasonal demand is keeping local pump prices down.  97.5 Glory
  • A new report predicts Gainesville will grow rapidly by mid-century—one of five Georgia cities set to drive economic growth. The study notes the town, known as the Poultry Capital of the World, recently recorded over 4% growth and a median home price near $542,500 as its water-based recreation and manufacturing sectors are expected to boost future development.  97.5 Glory

HEALTH NEWS

  • Longstreet Clinic celebrated its 30th anniversary—marking its growth from eight specialty practices to one of the largest doctor groups in the area. It now offers 20 specialties with nearly 175 providers and over 700 employees across several offices and merged with Northeast Georgia Health System earlier this year.  97.5 Glory

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gainesville High football players face an uncertain playoff fate after a fight on the field before Thanksgiving led to over 30 suspensions— a judge lifted the suspensions with an injunction while the GHSA filed an appeal.  WSB-TV
  • In the AP Top 25 poll released today, UGA moved up to #3 + Georgia Tech dropped to #24. The rankings reflect shifting college football standings that will affect team strategies in upcoming games.  97.5 Glory
